Scherrie Payne
Good things really do come in small packages! Known as
“The Little Lady With The Big Voice” -
SCHERRIE PAYNE – brings to the group a formidable history in the music business. Noted as the Official final lead singer of THE SUPREMES – unquestionably, and universally acclaimed, the biggest and most successful group to emerge from the Motown stable of artists. With over 100 million
albums and CD’s sold, to this day, they remain the most successful female group of all-time.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan - the Motor City - from a early age, she was destined to be in the middle of the “Motown Sound.”
Scherrie, the younger sister of jazz songstress Freda Payne, began
her show-biz career as the lead singer of the group Glass House. Signed to the Invictus Label, which was formed by Motown’s prolific Holland/Dozier/Holland songwriting team (Eddie and Brian Holland, and Lamont Dozier), with Glass House, she achieved her first hit with a record she co-wrote, “Crumbs Off The Table,” which reached the Top 10 on the Billboard charts. Following “Crumbs” success, Scherrie was asked to join Motown’s biggest female group – The
Supremes – when Holland/Dozier/Holland recommended her as a replacement for Jean Terrell. And the rest is history.
Scherrie - “The Payne Killer” – as she is affectionately known by fans - quickly established herself as a firm favorite with the group’s legions of fans worldwide with her superb vocals and dynamic stage
presence. Her warm infectious smile, her sweet bubbly personality transcends the stage and endears her to all who come in contact with her.
Over the past four decades Scherrie has also proven herself to be an accomplished and versatile songwriter. Scherrie composed a musical entitled "Ten Good Years," from which the song "Another Life from Now" was taken and featured on her "Partners" album (with Susaye Greene) and remains a staple part of her live performances.
In 2000 Scherrie embarked on an ambitious tour as a member of Diana Ross & The Supremes on their much publicized “Return To Love” tour.
As a solo artist, Scherrie has had hits such as "I'm Not In Love," which featured her sister Freda (who saw a #1 hit with her "Band Of Gold"), and former original Supreme Mary Wilson on backing vocals, and “One Night Only” from the “Dreamgirls Dance Project” on the Altair label in 2007.
Appearing as the special guest star at the “If My Friends Could See Me Now” fundraiser in Los Angeles, to a thunderous ovation, she wowed the audience with her high-energy version of “One Night Only.” Backing Scherrie up that night were her childhood friends and fellow Detroit natives, Joyce & Pam Vincent, both formerly of Tony Orlando & Dawn fame. These old friends have worked together many times during their illustrious careers.
Scherrie is now inspiring and transferring her legions of Supremes fans to a new and pioneering adventure in music by embarking on a beautiful new road in her career - banding together with good
friends and fellow music industry elite, JOYCE & PAM VINCENT, JIM GILSTRAP and THERESA DAVIS as members of Tour De 4Force .
The smooth-jazz style of their first CD, "QUIET MOON," is perfect for
Scherrie’s considerable talents and will firmly establish her in this genre.
